Full Day Trip – Nakupenda Sandbank, Prison Island and Stone Town Tour

Tour Overview

The program will start after you finish breakfast at 8:30 am. You will be picked up by a driver from your hotel to the destination area. The tour will end at 5:30 pm. This program involves visiting three incredible places: Prison Island, Nakupenda Sandbank, and Stone Town.

Sandbank picnic in Zanzibar is a full day trip, departs from Stone Town near Serena Hotel at around 9:30 am. We sail you away to Prison Island (Changuu Island) where the giant tortoises are found relaxing on the beach shrubs. After the snorkeling tour around the island, we head to a sandbank where brilliant birdlife exists. Lunch (seafood and drinks), relax on the sandbank, swim, and listen to the birdlife around you and the water lapping against the shore.

On this tour, you will discover a lot of things. We shall slowly start to sail back to Stone Town after soaking up the sun, and return back to the Serena Inn by 3:30 pm. Then visitors will have an additional walking safari tour around the historic city of Stone Town. The city tour will take around one hour and thirty minutes. The trip will be on a private traditional boat. The sandbank picnic is great for groups of tourists, couples, families, and individuals.

08:30 AM - Hotel Pickup

Our driver will pick you up from your hotel in Zanzibar and transfer you to Stone Town near Serena Hotel.

09:30 AM - Departure to Prison Island

Board a private traditional boat and set sail to Prison Island (Changuu Island), located about 20 minutes from Stone Town.

10:00 AM - Prison Island Exploration

Arrive at Prison Island. Visit the Aldabra giant tortoise sanctuary - see, touch, feed, and take pictures of these magnificent creatures (some over 100 years old). Explore the prison ruins, nature trail, and spot small antelopes.

11:00 AM - Snorkeling at Prison Island Reef

Enjoy snorkeling in the crystal clear waters around Prison Island. Discover colorful coral reefs and diverse marine life.

12:00 PM - Nakupenda Sandbank

Sail to Nakupenda Sandbank, a stunning white sandbank that emerges during low tide. Relax, swim, and enjoy the brilliant birdlife in this pristine location.

12:30 PM - Seafood BBQ Lunch

Indulge in a delicious seafood BBQ lunch on the sandbank. Feast on prawns, lobster, octopus, calamari, tuna fish, and French fries. Enjoy tropical fruits (pineapple, banana, watermelon, mango, coconut) and beverages (water, soda).

02:30 PM - Return to Stone Town

Soak up the sun and relax before slowly sailing back to Stone Town, arriving at Serena Inn by 3:30 pm.

03:30 PM - Stone Town Walking Tour

Begin a guided walking tour of historic Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore narrow streets, historic buildings, the old slave market, local markets, and learn about Zanzibar's rich cultural heritage. Duration: approximately 1.5 hours.

05:00 PM - Return to Hotel

Conclude your Stone Town tour and transfer back to your hotel, ending your unforgettable full day adventure.
